Yastika Bhatia ruled out of Australia ODIs, 2025 World Cup

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia as well as the 2025 Women’s 50-over World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Thursday.

The setback comes as a major blow to India’s plans, with Yastika sustaining an injury to her left knee during the team’s preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam. She is currently under the supervision of the BCCI’s medical staff, who will continue to monitor her recovery. Her absence will be felt deeply, given her role as a reliable top-order batter and a dependable wicketkeeping option.

In her place, the selectors have drafted in Uma Chetry, who will now join both the ODI squad and India’s World Cup contingent. Chetry’s elevation means she will no longer feature in the India A side, which is scheduled to play a warm-up fixture ahead of the World Cup. The 21-year-old, who has been on the selectors’ radar for some time, now has a golden opportunity to make her mark on the international stage.

With Yastika sidelined, India will look to recalibrate their plans quickly, as the World Cup looms large on the horizon.
