Afghanistan Clinches a Thrilling 38-Run Victory Over UAE in Sharjah

In a compelling contest at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on September 1, Afghanistan secured a convincing 38-run victory over the United Arab Emirates in the third match of the 2025 UAE T20I Tri-Series.

Chasing a formidable target of 189, the UAE was restricted to 150 for 8 in their 20 overs, despite spirited knocks from Muhammad Waseem (67 off 37 balls) and Rahul Chopra (52 not out off 35).

Afghanistan’s bowlers, however, rose to the occasion. Captain Rashid Khan led the charge with figures of 3 for 21, surpassing New Zealand’s Tim Southee to become the highest wicket-taker in T20I history. Partnering him in attack, Sharafuddin Ashraf also took 3 wickets (3/24), earning him the Player of the Match award.

On the batting front, Afghanistan posted a commanding 188 for 4 in their 20 overs. Ibrahim Zadran (63 off 40 balls) and Sediqullah Atal (54 off 40) provided the backbone of the innings, helping their team set a challenging target.

Afghanistan’s victory not only marked their first win of the series, but also snapped UAE’s perfect start, the hosts now sit with two losses in two matches.
